Vision Centre

The Vision Centre at Glasgow Caledonian University provides comprehensive eye care to the public and clinical training facilities for Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians and Orthoptics students. During teaching semesters patients are typically examined by students under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified clinical staff. In addition, the Vision Centre is home to a number of highly experienced clinicians who provide a full range of eye examination and dispensing services to NHS and private patients throughout the year.

The centre is open to the public 9.00am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday. It is equipped to the highest standards and is housed in modern purpose built facility situated on the Ground Floor of the Govan Mbeki Health Building in the University campus on Cowcaddens Road. There is ramp and automated wide door access for wheelchairs, and lift access between floors for disabled patients.

Competitive prices

The centre provides full eye examination and dispensing under General Ophthalmic Services (NHS) regulations. Eye examinations are free for all eligible patients. There are charges for specialist examinations and reports depending on the nature of the report (see Specialised Clinics) including Colour Vision and Visual Stress Clinics where these are not covered by Health Authorities.

Language provision

The wide range of languages spoken by staff and students who attend the course allows us to provide translation services for patients who do not have English as a first language. This includes:

  • Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Arabic
  • Cantonese, Mandarin
  • Greek, Russian, Bulgarian
  • Hebrew
  • Japenese, Bahasa Malay
