Learning Development Centre (HLS)
The Learning Development Centre is available to all Undergraduate, Postgraduate and International students in the School of Health and Life Sciences.
The Centre provides face-to-face and online academic support through a combination of workshops, small group sessions, one-to-one appointments and tailored teaching within modules. The support available to students is provided in a professional and supportive environment enabling them to develop the skills required to succeed at university.
Each programme has an Academic Development Tutor who works closely with the teaching teams to ensure that all students are fully supported and appropriate additional sessions are provided as required. The Learning Development Centre also has an Academic Development Tutor who specialises in ICT Skills and Digital Literacies, providing support and training in different aspects of using ICT for study and work, ensuring students have access to and are gaining value from the most up-to-date learning technologies.
Workshops are offered throughout the trimester, with options for small group and one-to-one sessions available by appointment. Regular weekly drop-in sessions provide additional support. The Learning Development Centre offers flexible access to accommodate part-time students, distance learners, and those on placement, ensuring they can receive face-to-face support and make full use of the available services.
In recognition of its dedication to student success, the School of Health and Life Sciences Learning Development Centre team was awarded Academic Support Team of the Year at The Herald Higher Education Awards in 2017.
