The University celebrates No Mow May

The University is proud to give nature a helping hand again this year and take part of the Plantlife's No Mow May campaign. This means that lawn areas that would normally be cut have been left to grow throughout the month of May. A number of lawns have been chosen through the University’s Biodiversity Plan on the campus grounds, covering approximately 6400m2 to be included in the No Mow May activities. Look out for the campaign signage (see above) around campus to see which areas are included in the campaign. Our main objective for this is to enhance local biodiversity through supporting vegetation and pollinator diversity.

No Mow May is Plantlife’s annual campaign calling on gardeners and landowners to leave the mowers in the shed and allow flowers to grow as May is a vital month for allowing the flowering plants to get established and provide nectar for pollinators as well as other invertebrates. Pollination is important for plant and crop diversity and food production as pollinators help crops to produce fruit.
