Take part in Glasgow Goes Green Festival

Glasgow Goes Green festival is back again this year with a week full of sustainability events at our Glasgow campus from Monday, 3 – Friday, 7 March. The focus of the festival is to explore the diverse ways that sustainability can be integrated across disciplines. From science and technology to food and social sciences, this festival will showcase how every field can contribute to a sustainable future. The theme for this year is 'Sustainability Synergies - Uniting Disciplines for a Greener Future'.
In addition, the main festival day will take place on Wednesday, 5 March at the University of Glasgow’s Advanced Research Centre (ARC). For further details on the main day events, you can visit the Glasgow Goes Green social media page.

Campus BioBlitz
Tuesday, 4 March: 12noon – 1pm
Campus BioBlitz, is a citizen science project in the University’s Biodiversity Plan (published in May 2023) with the aim of helping us to identify and record on-campus species diversity. To participate in the BioBlitz, you need to download the iNaturalist app and join the University’s Biodiversity Project on the app. You can go out on campus on any of the dates between 3 – 7 March (and as often as you like) and record as many (naturally occurring - not decorative) species that you can find.
The introduction session to BioBlitz on Tuesday, 4 March will be joined by Dr Paul Baker (SHLS) who will share his personal experience on how to find and record different species on our Glasgow campus.

Carbon Food-Printing
Wednesday, 5 March: 12noon - 1pm
Join us for an interactive workshop hosted by Glasgow Caledonian University in partnership with BaxterStorey, focused on food sustainability. This session will delve into the environmental impact of the food we consume, helping you understand how our food choices influence the planet. Talk to our head chef (BaxterStorey) and discover practical tips for making more sustainable food decisions while also learning about the importance of reducing your carbon footprint.

Every Tree Tells A Story
Thursday, 6 March: 12noon-1pm
Come along for the Every Tree Tells A Story (ETTAS) walk and talk around campus to learn about the history of the Glasgow campus through the stories that trees can tell us. The walk will be followed by a discussion (indoors).
Playful Sustainability
Thursday, 6 March: 1:30pm – 2:30pm
Discover a holistic approach to sustainable game design and how you can learn about sustainability through games by attending the Playful Sustainability workshop, delivered by Pip Kokkos, a current master’s student at GCU and also a GCU Games Design (undergrad) alumni. A little bit about Pip: "I have always had a deep-seated love for games, be they digital or otherwise. It is within that passion that I find my drive to help where I can, and by sharing this passion I hope to inspire others to look at their own domains through a different lens. A lens that is playful, compassionate, and mindful of the world around us."

Dr Bike mobile mechanic
Thursday, 6 March: 11am – 1pm
Dr Bike will be back on campus (main concourse) to carry out minor repairs and check bicycles to make sure all of our cyclists are safe on the road. Bike checks will be carried out on a first-come, first-served basis. For up-to-date information, you can sign-up to our Cycling Forum.

Tuesday, 4 March and Thursday, 6 March: 11am – 1pm
Visit the National Student Money Week stalls at the George Moore Campus Life desk area and talk to our sustainable travel advisors to find ways to save money on your travel to campus while contributing to sustainability.
