Our commitments
Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) declared a climate emergency and committed to carbon neutrality by 2050. The date for carbon neutrality has since been brought forward to 2040 in the University's Strategy 2030. This new commitment builds on and adds a new focus to the University's long-standing commitment, as the University for the Common Good, to incorporate the principles of sustainable development into every aspect of its operations.
The University operates a well-established environmental management system, certified EcoCampus Platinum (ISO 14001), that provides a robust, externally verified framework for delivering the University's commitments, which are delivered through a growing number of thematic action plans.
Glasgow Caledonian University Environmental Policy sets out its priority areas and throughout these pages, you will find examples of practical initiatives the University is implementing to enhance its environmental commitments and realise its commitment to become carbon neutral.
