Meet Dorota
Dorota
Applied Psychology
For the first time I feel connected to a community
“I never could have imagined that listening to true crime podcasts back home in Poland would one day lead me to Glasgow. But I’m very happy it did. I think it was meant to be.”
Chance encounters can lead to beautiful things
I always knew I wanted to study abroad, but I didn’t know exactly where. I had so many options which was great, if not slightly daunting. But it was a chance encounter at a party that led me to finding out about GCU and once I looked into it, I didn’t look back. I didn’t apply anywhere else and now I’m here studying Applied Psychology and I’m loving it.
I want to know our stories
It’s a part of my course to try and understand people; their motivations and thought processes, and it’s something I love being able to explore through my university life here in Glasgow. It’s so fascinating to be able to meet with and talk to different people, to understand their life stories, where they’re coming from and their perspectives.
GCU has opened my eyes
Volunteering and giving back to the community has been a part of my life since I was child and now, I feel like I can continue that with the Student Association and Erasmus Student Network. I’ve made a lot of friends that I would have never met if it hadn’t been for our shared interests to work towards the common good. No matter where you’re from and who you are, you’re made to feel included and respected. It’s a place of equality.
Get involved at GCU!
Like Dorota, there are loads of ways current students can get involved at GCU outside of your academic programme:
- Become a student ambassador and help new students starting at GCU
- Sign up to our student mentoring programme and help give back to local communities
- Represent your classmates by being a class or department rep
- Join a sports club or society via the Students’ Association and make friends for life
- Take part in the Student Association’s Leadership programme
- Sign up to the Common Good Award to make a positive difference in the communities you serve
“Volunteering for different causes doesn't just help others, it helps you to feel connected to people too. We all benefit.”
