Everyone should feel seen and heard

“We have the chance to be a generation of change for the common good.”

I can finally be me

Where I grew up it was illegal to be who I was. I had to hide my true self for so long; it was a difficult process to be able to explore safely here at GCU. I felt supported by my peers and the services that are available. It made me want to do the same for others, to help provide the spaces we all need to feel safe and understood.

We’re always looking to go further

GCU holds space for all voices; it’s what makes representation and intersectionality so important. The common good is about everyone and for everyone. Drag bingo sold out in Freshers Week and was attended by so many different people, but the LGBT society can also be small and intimate. From the student body to the committees and senate and staff; we are all empowered to voice what we think should be happening. Compromise is important so long as you feel heard, which many of us in the LGBT community haven’t always experienced growing up.

University should be a part of your life

At GCU you’re really supported and encouraged with studies; it’s about working hard and making good choices. With all the clubs and societies right here in the city centre you’re able to work out who you are while supporting others along the way when you can.

“Working towards the common good is a two-way street. You should feel heard and respected and GCU works hard to make sure that happens for everyone.”
