Equality and diversity training
Equality, diversity and inclusion online training
A wide range of equality, diversity and inclusion online training courses are available to all GCU staff members to use for personal development or for teaching purposes.
Developed by Skill Boosters, an online video-based training platform, and hosted on GCU Learn, each module is available in three formats: a short film (10 minutes), micro-course (15-minute video delivered in bite-sized chunks); and training course (30 to 60-minute video). As well as equality, diversity and inclusion, the Skill Boosters catalogue available to all GCU staff includes courses on communication, compliance, leadership, personal effectiveness and workplace wellbeing.
The equality, diversity and inclusion topics include: cultural awareness, inclusive language and communication, the impact of micro-behaviours, inclusive leadership, allyship, intersectionality, and awareness of specific equality, diversity and inclusion areas such as age, disability, gender, neurodiversity, race, sexual orientation and trans issues. Of particular relevance to GCU staff are the Understanding Unconscious Bias and Inclusion Essentials courses.
Understanding Unconscious Bias
Understanding unconscious bias takes an in-depth look at the nature of bias and its impact in the workplace, providing useful psychological insights into how our own behaviour might be affected by bias and what we can do to reduce or eliminate its influence on our working relationships and the decisions that we make. Produced in partnership with leading UK business psychology consultancy Pearn Kandola LLP, this course has been designed to help people at all levels including operational managers and staff, HR managers and trainers, and senior executives and business leaders.
Inclusion Essentials
An inclusive organisation is one that's able to leverage diversity of skills, experience and perspectives in a way that enables everyone to give their best and delivers competitive advantage. Combining thought-provoking drama with insight from leading equality, diversity and inclusion experts, Inclusion Essentials looks at how to identify and respond to discrimination, harassment and victimisation in the workplace and offers guidance on creating an inclusive working environment and providing an inclusive service.
You can access the Understanding Unconscious Bias and Inclusion Essential courses, as well as the full range of equality, diversity and inclusion related courses by logging in to GCU Learn, click on 'Organisations' on the left-hand navigation menu and look for 'Skill Boosters Online Learning'.
