The African Leadership College Mauritius
Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is the founding academic partner of an innovative higher education institution in Africa established to develop future leaders for the continent.
More than 180 students from 30 African countries are preparing to start at the African Leadership College (ALC) Mauritius from January 2017. As founding academic partner, GCU is accrediting and delivering the initial undergraduate programmes in business, computing, social sciences and psychology.
The programmes have a focus on ethical leadership, employability and entrepreneurialism and each year of study incorporates a four-month internship with an employer partner, including IBM, Thomson Reuters and Price Waterhouse Coopers.
The official opening of ALC Mauritius was attended by the President of Mauritius, Her Excellency Mrs Ameenah Gurib-Fakim; ALC’s inaugural Chancellor Dr Graça Machel, former First Lady of both Mozambique and South Africa; GCU former Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE, and Fred Swaniker, founder of ALC Mauritius and African Leadership Unleashed.
ALC Mauritius is funded by African Leadership Unleashed and is the first step in Mr Swaniker’s vision to create a network of 25 African higher education institutions. The first cohort is already on campus studying the GCU-accredited foundation year and pre-requisite modules before progressing to the GCU honours degree programmes.
