Spotlight On… Mental Health Conversations
Exploring the power of conversations for mental health: practical tips, breaking stigma, and fostering connection for wellbeing.
In today's fast-paced world, taking time to connect meaningfully with others is more crucial than ever. Research shows that engaging in supportive conversations can significantly impact our mental wellbeing, reducing feelings of loneliness and fostering a sense of belonging. Good conversations can help us manage stress, boost self-esteem, and even improve our overall life satisfaction.
Join us on Thursday, 20 March 2025 for a panel discussion to explore the importance of conversations to our mental health, and discuss practical strategies for initiating and maintaining these vital conversations about mental health. Our panel will discuss how to create safe spaces for open dialogue, overcome stigma, and support one another in our journey towards better mental wellbeing.
At the panel discussion you will hear from
- Claire Jennings: Project Officer - Young People, See Me
- Katie Miller-Cole: Mental Health and Wellbeing Manager, Glasgow Caledonian University
- Liam Yule: Suicide Prevention Programme Manager – Communities, SAMH

Information about the Spotlight On... series
The Spotlight On… series helps to shine a light on mental health or issues that can impact our mental health. We aim to promote an inclusive culture of openness and trust, raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing, and reduce the negativity often associated with it.
Our series of open and authentic panel discussions with questions and answers include a round table of Glasgow Caledonian and external experts, and individuals with relevant lived experiences. Each one addresses a different topic related to mental health or issues that can impact our mental health.
In addition to the session, we are creating videos, training material and resources to enable staff and students to better understand the topics and provide support for dealing with the relevant issues.
Santander Universities is generously supporting GCU’s Spotlight On Mental Health series. Their much-valued funding will help support a programme of talks and podcasts designed to tackle mental health and wellbeing through open and authentic discussions.
