Academic Development and Student Learning

Academic Development and Student Learning (ADSL) is part of the wider Learning and Student Experience Directorate in Glasgow Caledonian University and the department has the following key objectives:

  • Design and deliver targeted academic and professional development in learning and teaching in partnership with staff, students and Student Association
  • Drive and support the implementation of strategic university-wide developments in learning, teaching and assessment
  • Support staff to gain professional recognition in learning and teaching through implementation of the university’s Academic Development Framework (ADF) and the Professional Standards for teaching and supporting student learning (2023)
  • Drive and support educational research and the development of local, national and or international partnerships
  • Lead key university-wide developments in learning and teaching that deliver transformative education  to support the successful implementation of the University’s overall Strategy 2030.
  • Influence sector debate and discussions in relation to academic policy and practice
  • Work in partnership with Schools to build academic leadership capacity across the university
  • Manage the university’s VLE and appropriate use of digital technology to support learning, teaching and assessment
