Estates and Facilities acknowledge the importance of providing a comfortable working environment within the University campus.
A centralised heating system is in place within University buildings in order to monitor and control the heating use and contribute to reducing the carbon footprint as per the University Carbon Management Plan.
Estates and Facilities Thermal Comfort Procedure
Lone workers are those who work by themselves without close or direct supervision. The extent of supervision required depends on the risks involved and the ability of the lone worker to identify and handle health and safety issues.
Examples include a person working alone for a long period of time, working outside normal working hours and mobile workers that work away from the University campus.
Within the University this could include, for example, working alone in a laboratory, workshop or office and work off campus including fieldwork activities, carrying out research in the community, travel etc.
The Health and Safety Guidance on working alone details that in itself, working alone is not against legislation and is often safe to do so however there is a legal requirement to carefully consider, and then deal with, any health and safety risks for people working alone.
Further information on Lone Working can be found in the University Lone Working Procedure
