Telephones
What you need to know about the phone system
- If your extension number starts with a 3 then the external Direct Dialling In (DDI) code is 0141 331 3xxx
- If your extension number starts with an 8 then the external DDI code is 0141 331 8xxx
- If your extension number starts with a 1 then the external DDI code is 0141 273 1xxx
- Your extension number is allocated to you when you join and will normally remain with you for your time at the University.
- You can log in to any phone in the University and the system will give you all your facilities at that phone. You can only log in to one phone at a time so the action of logging into a phone will log you out of any other phone you were logged in to.
- You will only be able to dial numbers within the level of access requested by your department; local calls, national calls, mobile calls, or international calls. If you need to change your dial access level, please see the FAQ section below.
- Calls to Directory Enquiries, International Operator and 09xxx numbers are blocked. You can make directory enquiries online at BT or Yell
Call recording
As part of the Cisco IP phone system, Glasgow Caledonian University offers a call recording service. This is available for staff and research students conducting research or interviews by telephone.
If you would like to book the call recording service, please discuss this with your Dean or Head of Department in the first instance. An authorisation from the Dean or HoD will be required. You can log a call recording request using the GCU Service Now portal.
