Eye Examinations for Children
Most children have excellent sight and do not need to wear glasses. However, if there are problems it is important that they are picked up at an early age.
It is recommended that all children should have their first eye examination at the age of 6 months. The next examination should be before starting school and then annually thereafter.
If you have any concerns about your child’s eyes, or if there is a history of squint or lazy eye in the family, do not wait until your child starts school.
Your child does not have to be able to read or talk to have a sight test. Very young infants and children with additional support needs can be seen in one of our specialist clinics.
Sight tests are free under the NHS.
