Advanced Higher Hub nominated for ScottishPower award

The Advanced Higher Hub at GCU has been nominated for a ScottishPower Foundation Award.

The widening access initiative, which reaches out to 28 partner schools to deliver Advanced Highers on campus, has been shortlisted in the Education Partnership category.

ScottishPower Foundation recently partnered with the Advanced Higher Hub in a drive to boost pupil participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Rebecca Lavery, Head of the Advanced Higher Hub, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership this year with the Scottish Power Foundation to promote fair access of opportunity to STEM Advanced Higher studies for young people from Glasgow City Council schools. We are thrilled that we have been nominated for the Scottish Power Education Partnership Award and would like to wish our fellow nominees the very best of luck on the evening."

The other nominees in the category are National Museums Scotland, Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland, Children’s University Scotland, Young Enterprise, Theatr Clwyd and The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. The winner will receive a share of a £30,000 award fund.

Ann McKechin, Trustee and Executive Officer of the ScottishPower Foundation, said: "I have had the pleasure of getting to know each of our shortlisted projects across the last year and have learned about some of the fantastic work which they are undertaking across communities in the UK.

"We’re really pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to receive additional funding but also to meet with other like-minded organisations and foster learning."

Now in its fourth year, the Foundation’s awards ceremony will be held at ScottishPower’s new headquarters on St. Vincent Street in Glasgow on November 7.
