Supporting the Global Forum for Responsible Management Education

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE will speak at the 2017 Global Forum for Responsible Management Education — 7th PRME Assembly in conjunction with the United Nations High-Level Political Forum.

Professor Gillies will join fellow leaders in helping to shape the future of business and management education, and to support the global effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Over 300 pioneers and thought leaders of responsible management education will be at the 2017 Global Forum, celebrating 10 years of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative of the United Nations Global Compact.

The conference will also allow high-level statements introducing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – the focus of the 2017 Global Forum – and highlighting their relevance for business and management schools.

The UN’s SDGs, officially known as ‘Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’, is a set of 17 global goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda.

In 2013, GCU became the first Scottish university to join the UN Global Compact, the world’s biggest voluntary corporate responsibility partnership. GCU is also one of only 30 members of the global PRME Champions Group in recognition of its leadership role. 

GCU Chancellor, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, is an official Sustainable Development Goals Advocate.

Dr Alec Wersun, Chair-elect of the UK & Ireland Chapter of Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and Senior Lecturer at GCU said: “As the University for the Common Good, we are playing a key role in the global transformation of business management education, in which corporate responsibility and sustainability are now fundamental concerns for all thought leaders and organisations.”

Launched under the leadership of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, PRME demands more socially responsible business research and thought leadership. GCU's participation, led by Glasgow School for Business and Society, is a commitment to ensure that the principles are central to the University's teaching, learning, and research.

The Global Forum will take place on July 18 and 19 at Fordham University Lincoln Center Campus in New York.
