High-profile media names to attend roadshow
Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is to host a Question Time-style roadshow in conjunction with the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO).
A panel of some of the most high-profile names in Scottish newspapers will discuss press regulation and media issues.
IPSO regulates the vast majority of national, regional and local papers in the UK (around 95% of the market). The roadshow is being held in an effort to make the public more aware of IPSO and its role, particularly in raising journalism standards.
Chaired by Rona Dougall (STV Scotland Tonight), attendees will have the opportunity to hear from, and question, editors, experts and the regulator of the majority of newspapers and magazines in the UK.
The panel includes Sir Alan Moses, Chair of IPSO; Graeme Smith, Editor of The Herald; Murray Foote, Group Editor, Media Scotland (Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail Ltd); and Ben McConville, Head of GCU’s Department, Social Sciences, Media and Journalism.
Julian Calvert, Assistant Head of Department, Social Sciences, Media and Journalism, said: “This is the first time such an event has been held in Scotland. Regulation and ethics are at the heart of our twin-accredited multimedia journalism programmes and this will be a great opportunity students to hear high-profile issues discussed by some of the most important people in the industry.”
The event is free and will be held on Monday, 18 September 6-8pm in the Hamish Wood Building.
