GCU to host international Q Conference

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is to host the 33rd annual Q Conference for the International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity.

The conference will be held at event venue 200SVS in Glasgow between September 7 and 9. 

Job van Exel, Associate Professor of Health Economics at the Institute of Health Policy & Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands, will present a keynote speech.

While the conference programme will cover a range of disciplines and sectors, the study of subjectivity and the use of Q Methodology will provide a unifying element to the conference.

Q Methodology is a research method used in psychology and in social sciences to study people's subjectivity.Since 1985, the Q Methodology Conference has been hosted annually by institutions all over the world.

The conference is unique in that it provides a multidisciplinary forum for students and professionals to explore the latest research, applications, and developments surrounding the use of Q Methodology.

GCU is home to the Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health, which aims to make a tangible difference to people's lives, including through Q methodology.

Professor Rachel Baker's research includes applied Q methodology and qualitative methods to economic theories of rationality in the context of health and lifestyle choices; Q methodology to investigate societal perspectives about the principles underlying health care resource allocation as part of national and international research projects investigating the social value of quality-adjusted life years; and societal perspectives on the relative value of life-extending treatments.
