Quitely does it - comic-book artist to present at GCU
He’s drawn the X-Men, Superman and Batman – now legendary Scottish comic-book artist Frank Quitely will share his inspiration with students at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).
The world-renowned artist will host a Christmas lecture at the University’s Glasgow campus on Wednesday (December 6).
Frank has also written his first animated horror short, Nothing To Declare, which looks at what might happen if the end of the world started next door.
It was recently made into a fully CG animated short film, premiering at the 2017 Edinburgh International Film Festival. It was directed by BAFTA-nominated Will Adams and crafted by Oscar-winning CG veteran Tom Bryant with music by John Cummings, formerly of the band Mogwai.
The guest lecture event will begin with a screening of the film followed by a joint presentation from the key production personnel.
Frank will talk about his artwork and ideas in general before the panel explain the making of the movie in detail, from the original concept ideas through all the various stages of CG animation production to the completion of the final film.
Simon Haslett, Senior Lecturer in VFX and CG Production, said: “We are thrilled to have such world-class talent come to GCU to share their work with our students. As we continue to work closer with the film and animation industries in Scotland, it’s nice to know there’s a genuine possibility that our CG animation graduates could be working on the next movie.”
The event will take place at 2.30pm in the Deeprose Lecture Theatre A005 on the ground floor of the Govan Mbeki Building.
