GCU's Dr Wersun recognised for supporting PRME initiatives

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU)’s Dr Alec Wersun has been recognised for his leadership and commitment to Responsible Management Education (PRME) at the 2017 Global Forum celebrating ten years of the initiative. 

Dr Wersun, Chair-elect of the UK & Ireland Chapter of Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and Senior Lecturer at GCU, was presented with a PRME Pioneer Award during a reception at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Dr Wersun said: “It's a great honour and recognition of my personal contribution, but one which would not have been possible without the commitment of GCU to the PRME initiative. It was amazing to collect this special award at the UN, in front of distinguished peers in the global PRME community. It was a special moment for me personally, and by extension for GCU.”

The University also received a 2017 Recognition of Excellence in Reporting Award for its Sharing Information on Progress (SIP) Report. GCU also won a SIP award in 2013.

Initiated by the PRME Secretariat with key support and leadership from Special Advisor Giselle Weybrecht, the SIP Recognitions have become a hallmark event during each Global Forum, intended to spotlight the most exceptional examples of SIP Reports from PRME signatories.

Dr Wersun and GCU Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE have joined fellow leaders in helping to shape the future of business and management education, and to support the global effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, at the 2017 Global Forum.

In 2013, GCU became the first Scottish university to join the UN Global Compact, the world’s biggest voluntary corporate responsibility partnership. GCU is also one of only 30 members of the global PRME Champions Group in recognition of its leadership role. 

The Global Forum is taking place on July 18 and 19 at Fordham University Lincoln Center Campus in New York.
