GCU alumni run Canada's fastest growing companies

Two businesses created by GCU graduates feature in a list of fastest growing companies in Canada.

Marketing agency Fervent Events Inc. and recruitment broker Contrax VMS have both made the top 100 of the influential Canadian Business’ Growth 500.

Events management graduate Calum McGuigan launched Fervent Events Inc in 2009 with a start-up fund of $4000. The company has developed into a leading agency specialising in live brand experiences for clients including Universal Music Canada and A&W Canada.

It was listed at number 47 based on its revenue growth over the last five years.

Calum, who graduated from GCU in 2005, pictured right, said: "You can't ever really relax or rest on your laurels. You need to keep growing, innovating and creating opportunities otherwise you'll become stagnant.

"I had always wanted to have a career in events and, at the time, GCU offered one of the few events related courses in the UK.”

Meanwhile, recruitment firm Contrax VMS, led by GCU alumni John Clark, was named the 56th fastest growing company thanks to a growth rate of almost 1400%.

The Toronto-based company has worked across industries with leading enterprises from tech start-ups, Fortune 100 consumer goods firms, retailers, and global pharmaceutical giants.

John, pictured left, said: "We are delighted to be part of the fastest growing list and its awesome, tangible recognition for all our team’s hard work over the last five years."
