One of America’s most prominent feminist economists will present the third annual Ailsa McKay Memorial Lecture at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Stephanie Sequino, Professor of Economics at the University of Vermont, will deliver a lecture on the gender effects of globalisation on May 17.

Professor Sequino’s research focuses on income distribution, wellbeing and the impact of inequality on economic growth.

A former President of the International Association for Feminist Economics, she has worked with a number of international organisations and research groups, including the US Agency for International Development, the United Nations Development Programme, and the World Bank.

It’s the third annual lecture to honour the late GCU Professor Ailsa McKay, who passed away in 2014 and is recognised for her key role in influencing government policy decisions that affected the lives of women, children and families.

As a leading advocate of gender budgeting, her work championed the position of women in Scotland’s economy.

The Contradictory Gender Effects of Globalisation takes place in the Deeprose Theatre, Govan Mbeki Building, at Glasgow Caledonian University on May 17 at 5pm.

The event will be opened by Professor Diane Elson and Emily Thomson, of the Wise Research Centre, and will be followed by a drinks reception.
