From script to screen with MA TV graduate Lorna Martin

The first graduate of GCU's MA TV Fiction Writing course to create an original TV series returned to campus this week to run a workshop for the class of 2018.

Lorna Martin co-created and wrote the hit show Women on the Verge, which follows three women in their 30s as they deal with work, divorce, men, children, parents, siblings and everything else life throws at them.

Beautifully written, acted and directed, the six-part series aired on UK digital channel W and RTE in Ireland.

During the workshop, Lorna was very candid about the long process from script to screen and the realities of the development process.

She told the current crop of students: "The MA TV course was an invaluable part of my development as a writer. It's wonderful to come today and give something back."

Professor Ann Marie Di Mambro said: "As a teacher, it gives me such satisfaction when someone we've taught comes back to share their experiences and their learning with MATV.

"Lorna's achievements are exceptional. We most certainly will be asking her back."

GCU is marking the 10th anniversary of its MA TV Fiction Writing programme this year with a series of events.

Graduates have worked on some of Britain’s most popular long-running shows, including EastEnders, Casualty, and Holby City.
