Gender-neutral clothing in style at Glasgow fashion exhibition

Models at the latest GCU fashion show try out the latest unisex designs

Shoppers will have the chance to try out gender-neutral clothing at a Glasgow exhibition on the future of high-street fashion.

Professional stylists and fashion students will be on hand to kit out volunteers in the latest unisex designs as part of Glasgow Science Festival.

Consumer Trends in Fashion and Lifestyles: Sustainability, Gender Neutrality & Social Media will showcase research on current consumer trends, including gender-neutral fashion collections and sustainable lifestyle projects.

This exhibition, which runs from 7-10 June, at Cass Art Glasgow, in Queen Street, includes a gender-neutral styling workshop at 1pm on Friday.

Stylist Richard Simpson, editor of Boutique Mags, will join International Fashion Business students from Glasgow Caledonian University to style and photograph members of the general public in a range of designs.

Dr Elaine Ritch, senior lecturer in marketing at GCU, said: “More and more high street brands are adding gender-neutral clothing lines.

“In the past, there’s been a perception that gender-neutral clothing designs have been fairly bland and safe. That’s beginning to change as marketing in general moves away from being focussed on gender.”

As well as the styling workshop, Cass Art Glasgow will host a series of talks over the weekend.

Subjects include how fashion brands interact with social media, sustainability in fashion, and how new trends develop in creative industries.
