Hear the cream of student talent at Celtic Connections on Campus

GCU students will be on the mixing desk at Celtic Connection on Campus

The cream of student talent will be back on stage and behind the scenes at Celtic Connections on Campus, GCU’s annual lunchtime concert series.

Celtic Connections on Campus – in the Re:union bar from 12.30pm until 2pm, from January 22 to 26 – will feature up-and-coming talent from Scotland, England and Ireland’s universities, colleges and schools, backed by GCU’s BSc Audio Technology and BSc Audio Systems Engineering students. They will support live sets on campus, as well as Celtic Connections performances at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, in partnership with Celtic Music Radio. There’s no need to book and the concerts are free. And, from 7pm on January 25, students, staff and alumni are invited to A Celebration of Celtic Connections on Campus. Register here

Senior Lecturer Patrick Quinn, of the School of Engineering and Built Environment, is leading the project. He said: “GCU is delighted to be once again hosting our incredibly popular Celtic Connections on Campus concerts. Everyone is welcome to come along to hear a fantastic series of concerts. We have given many music fans their first glimpse of emerging talent such as BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2017 finalist, Iona Fyfe, and we’re excited about an equally exciting line-up in 2018.

“GCU’s students have been part of Celtic Connections for the past six years and this strand of concerts offers them opportunities to develop their creative and technical skills in a real-world environment, as well as bring a vibrant group of emerging music talent to the campus from across Scotland, Ireland and England.”

Donald Shaw, Artistic Director of Celtic Connections, said: “We’re delighted to be collaborating with GCU for a third year of Celtic Connections on Campus. Like hundreds of other music fans, I’m really looking forward to hearing some fantastic music from schools, colleges and universities in Scotland and beyond at the event. What a great way to start your day at the festival.”

Celtic Connections - the world’s biggest Celtic Music festival – celebrates its 25th anniversary with concerts, ceilidhs, talks, art exhibitions, workshops, and free events from January 18 to February 4.
