Principal to join education and business leaders in Global100 debate

The Principal Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE is to join the heads of the world's leading business schools and most sustainable businesses to discuss how education can use the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to shape society.

She will attend the Global100 Executive Roundtable Dinner and Debate, convened by the UN’s PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) and Corporate Knights: The Company for Clean Capitalism, in Davos Dorf, Switzerland.

The event gathers academic and business leaders each year to discuss “an impactful idea that advances sustainable capitalism”. This year the discussion will focus on the role of business and management education in shaping society to create a more sustainable future using the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Professor Gillies said: “I am pleased to have the opportunity to engage in the debate about fair and sustainable business models in the context of delivering the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Glasgow Caledonian University has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to social justice and sustainability across all of the work we do in education and research. I will be keen to contribute practical examples from the University’s work, from how we are supporting CEOs to implement sustainable business models in the fashion industry, and our facilitation of the Grameen Bank in Scotlan, to our development of affordable HE which upskills employees in the transport and energy sectors.”

GCU became a PRME signatory in 2012, and in 2013 became the first Scottish university to join the UN Global Compact. The University is committed to ensuring that PRME’s principles are central to its teaching, learning and research across all disciplines. GCU is also one of just 30 members of the global PRME Champions Group in recognition of its leadership role.
