Social Bite founder Josh Littlejohn headlines social innovation summit

One of the UK’s leading social entrepreneurs is to address a major conference on social innovation hosted by Glasgow Caledonian University.

Josh Littlejohn MBE, co-founder of Social Bite, a social enterprise with a mission to eradicate homelessness in Scotland, will be the keynote speaker at Movement Makers: Learn, Connect and Do on April 24.

Social Bite, which launched as a small chain of sandwich shops in Edinburgh, achieved global fame when Hollywood star George Clooney visited an outlet in 2015. Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio, HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have also visited the project.

Josh, 31, who last year organised the world’s biggest sleep-out event Sleep In The Park, has raised more than £7million for charity through his social endeavours.

He will deliver the keynote address at Movement Makers: Learn Connect and Do, which has been organised by social enterprise support network the Melting Pot and is set to attract social innovation stakeholders from across the UK and Europe.

Social entrepreneurs, policymakers, campaigners, community activists, academics, researchers and students will gather for a series of speeches, workshops and a question and answer session with a panel of experts, in the Hamish Wood Building.

Other speakers at the event include Glasgow Caledonian University’s Professor Stephen Sinclair, Francesca Calo, a researcher at the Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health, and Mark Anderson, director of the Europe Office.

The free event will cover three main themes; social inclusion, environment and health and wellbeing, and will focus on the aspirations of social innovation, the volunteering and networking opportunities available, and successful case studies.
