GCU students give life-saving CPR lessons

Students at Glasgow Caledonian University have been sharing life-saving CPR skills.

The volunteers gave demonstrations to visitors to Go Live! at the Green, which has been running throughout the European Championships.

GCU students joined volunteers from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland, the British Red Cross and British Heart Foundation, among others, to pass on the life-saving lessons organised by Save A Life For Scotland.

Hundreds of children and families took on the I'm CPR Ready message throughout the event at Glasgow Green.

GCU Adult Nursing student Lauren McQueer, 26, who is due to start her second-year Nursing Studies Bsc next month, was one of the volunteers.

She said: "Lots of children have been wanting to learn because they see what's going on and it looks interesting and fun.

"I think CPR should be mandatory for young people because you never know when you might need it. I've seen it first hand and it's not a nice thing, but if you're prepared you can deal with it."

Also on hand to pass on her skills was GCU student Miriam Ali, 46, who is studying for a Masters in Public Health after celebrating a 1st in BSc Hons Nursing Studies.

She was joined at the event by her daughters Ramlah, 16 and Taiyba, 17.

Miriam said: "It's been really busy. We've had children bringing in their parents and grandparents to all learn together."
