Jings! Crivvens! Oor Wullie visits GCU

A famous face has made a surprise appearance on campus.

A statue of Oor Wullie, the comic-strip favourite, has appeared outside the Hamish Wood building as Glasgow Caledonian University takes part in Scotland's biggest ever art trail this summer.

Oor Wullie's BIG Bucket Trail is spread over more than 200 sites across the country and aims to raise vital funds for Scotland's national children's hospital charities.

Artists have adorned sculptures of Oor Wullie, captured sitting on his trademark bucket, with various eye-catching designs.

The GCU sculpture will be on campus throughout the summer before being auctioned in September for the Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity.

It is hoped Oor Wullie will encourage new visitors to drop-by the University.

An app is available displaying the locations of all the Oor Wullie statues across Scotland.

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies CBE said: "We are delighted to host Oor Wullie, a Scottish 'icon', at our Glasgow campus and wholeheartedly embrace the opportunity this wee statue provides for us to raise funds to support such an important charity for children in our city."

Students’ Association President Eilidh Fulton added: "We are overjoyed to welcome Oor Wullie on to our Glasgow campus.

"We hope the statue will share a taste of Scottish culture with our diverse student body and look forward to seeing our students' reaction to Oor Wullie over the coming weeks."
