GCU among UK’s best in Guardian University Guide
Two subject areas at GCU have been listed in the top 10 in the UK and first in Scotland in this year's Guardian University Guide 2021.
Social work is judged to be second out of 74 universities evaluated, while tourism and events management is placed fourth out of 48 universities.
Other GCU subjects have also performed strongly, with social science/sociology ranking 11thout of 92 and third in Scotland, business, management and marketing ranking in the top 25 out of 123 universities, and subjects in the health professions also performing well.
The University has also moved up three places to be ranked 77th out of 121 universities in the UK, building on an increase of 16 places last year.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE said: "We are pleased that our University has once again been recognised in this prestigious guide, in recognition of our teaching, graduate outcomes and spend per student.
"I always stress that our commitment as the University for the Common Good is about much more than league tables. However, our position in the Guardian University Guide demonstrates that we can deliver academic excellence, as well as wider social benefit, and is testament to the efforts of staff from across GCU."
Student satisfaction, degree completion, entry tariff, the ratio of students to staff, graduate employment and spend per student are some of the measures used.
The guide is aimed specifically at students who are trying to choose a course starting in 2021.
Full analysis of the Guardian University Guide will be available on GCU DASH in due course.
