World-leading exercise expert wins most cited research paper award
World-leading physical activity expert Sebastien Chastin, Professor of Health Behaviour Dynamics in the School of Health and Life Sciences at GCU, has won yet another award for producing the most cited research paper.
The International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (IJBNPA) declared his paper 'Sedentary Behavior Research Network (SBRN) - Terminology Consensus Project process and outcome' as the winner in the most cited Methodology paper category.
Lead author Professor Chastin said: "I am delighted our paper has achieved such impact. The paper was an international consensus designed to provide a consistent terminology about how people describe, measure and report daily activity behaviours in behavioural research.
"It has got almost 1000 citations within two and a half years of publication. It formed the foundation for the new 24-hour movement behaviour guidelines in Canada and has been widely adopted as a framework by the movement research community. It was collaboration between GCU, Ottawa University, Amsterdam VUmc, University of Alberta and Queens University in Canada."
The IJBNPA editorial team announced that, based on citation reports from Web of Science, they had selected Professor Chastin's paper as the most cited Metholodogy paper published in 2017. The IJBNPA is the highest impact factor journal in physical activity research.
Breaking the news to Professor Chastin, the IJBNPA team said: "We are delighted to let you know that your paper entitled 'Sedentary Behavior Research Network (SBRN) - Terminology Consensus Project process and outcome' has been selected as the winner in the most cited Methodology paper category. On behalf of the entire IJBNPA editorial team we would like to congratulate you on your award! We have attached the official award certificate."
Last year another groundbreaking research paper, led by Professor Chastin, analysing the combined impact on health of physical activity, sitting and sleeping ranked one of the top 10 most cited papers in the field.
The same paper was also been named by the hugely respected academic journal Plos One in its top 10 per cent most cited papers.
The acclaimed research, entitled 'Combined Effects of Time Spent in Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviors and Sleep on Obesity and Cardio-Metabolic Health Markers: A Novel Compositional Data Analysis Approach', provided a novel approach to analyse the impact of the whole 24-hour day on health.
