The eyes have it

Glasgow Caledonian University’s excellence in vision science has been recognised with a top ranking in the latest Complete University Guide, which rated GCU first in the UK for Optometry, Ophthalmology and Orthoptics.

A number of other GCU subjects were ranked in the top quartile in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2021, with strong performances by Physiotherapy; Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation & Tourism; Law; and Communication & Media Studies.

The UK league tables draw upon a range of metrics. GCU outperforms all Scottish modern universities in key areas including entry standards, research quality, honours degree classification and degree completion.

Professor Anita Simmers, Vice Dean, School of Health and Life Sciences, said: "We are delighted to be ranked first in the UK for Optometry, Ophthalmology and Orthoptics (including Ophthalmic Dispensing). This fantastic result reflects our continued emphasis  on quality, be it teaching, research or the student experience, and is testament to the hard work of a great team.

"We are thrilled also to see a rise of seven places for Physiotherapy (including Podiatry), which now brings us to fourth in the UK - a wonderful success again reflecting a consistently high-performing team.

"Congratulations and well done to all."
