Advanced Higher Hub excels with 89% pass rate
Glasgow Caledonian University's Advanced Higher Hub has achieved an impressive overall pass rate of 89% this year, with particularly outstanding outcomes in Business and Modern Studies, both attaining a perfect 100%.
Among this year’s cohort, an outstanding 41% secured As, while 31% achieved Bs and 18% earned Cs. Other noteworthy subject pass rates include Biology at 91%, Chemistry at 80%, English at 89%, History at 92%, Maths at 83%, and Physics at 90%.
Hub pupils have embraced their academic achievements and most are now set to embark on higher education journeys, securing university places at Glasgow Caledonian and various institutions across the UK.
Eleanor Wilson MBE, Head of Widening Participation and Outreach at Glasgow Caledonian University, expressed her elation regarding this year's results, stating: “The Hub team and I are absolutely delighted with this year's achievements. The past four academic years have presented significant challenges in terms of educational disruptions, yet our Hub students have demonstrated unwavering dedication, resilience, and tenacity in their SQA exams, resulting in impressive accomplishments.”
The Advanced Higher Hub plays a pivotal role in fulfilling Glasgow Caledonian’s commitment as the University for the Common Good. Senior pupils who participate in the Hub are afforded invaluable opportunities to excel in their Sixth-Year Advanced Higher studies while gaining first-hand exposure to student life, thus preparing them for the road ahead.
To provide robust support for the academic senior-phase pathways of pupils across partner Glasgow City Council schools and beyond, the Hub, hosted by the University with external funding provided by the SFC and Glasgow City Council, extends offerings in Advanced Higher English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Modern Studies, Business Management, History, and Physics.
This initiative caters to a cohort of approximately 150 S6 pupils each academic year with 50% of students residing in MD20 postcodes and more than 70% from MD40 postcodes, embodying the University's commitment to fostering educational excellence, holistic development and widening participation.
