50 Years of Social Sciences

Glasgow Caledonian is hosting a special event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its BA/BA (Hons) Social Sciences programme.

A fantastic line-up of speakers and guests will join alumni, students, staff, and friends for The Past, Present and Future of Social Sciences on campus on January 25.

Billy Elliot and Gangs of New York actor Gary Lewis, who graduated from the programme in 1983, will host the evening and introduce the keynote speaker Willie Rennie MSP.

The former leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, who is also a Glasgow Caledonian graduate, will share insights on the relevance of his social science studies, and how it helped shape his career.

The event will showcase some of the highlights and achievements of the programme over the past 50 years, and look ahead to the future challenges and opportunities for social sciences.

Past Heads of Department and current staff and students will have the chance to reconnect with fellow graduates, former staff and friends at the celebration, which will be followed by a networking reception with food and drinks.
