GCU joins London Higher
Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) has joined London Higher, a membership organisation for universities and colleges in London.
The largest representative body of its kind in England, London Higher brings together almost 50 institutions from across the capital, including Imperial College London and the University of London.
London Higher advocates for and on behalf of the city's higher education sector and helps its members to address the opportunities and challenges that arise from their shared location.
It also hosts a wide range of range of advisory groups and networks, works closely with partner organisations such as Universities UK (UUK), responds to policy concerns and raises awareness of policy implications across its members.
GCU London is joining its 'Centres' network, which gives institutions whose main campus is based outside London an opportunity to connect across this community.
Mike Mannion, Head of the GCU London campus, said: "GCU London is really pleased to be joining London Higher, and very much look forward to working with the network members, creating new links and partnerships across the city and sharing best practice.
"We are proud to give our students the opportunity to study in a leading-edge learning environment in the heart of London, providing students with a range of career opportunities and enriching learning experiences. Being a member of London Higher will support us in this important work."
Diana Beech, Chief Executive Officer of London Higher said: "We are delighted to welcome GCU London to the London Higher community as part of our growing 'Centres' network.
"As the second Scottish university campus to take up our Centres membership, GCU London's addition to London Higher shows the pivotal role of the capital to UK-wide higher education, while also enhancing the diversity of provision on offer in the city.
"With its links to one of the largest universities in Scotland and extensive international profile, we look forward to working with the GCU London team to strengthen links both within the UK and around the world."
London's universities and colleges collectively educate more than 425,000 students, employ more than 223,000 people across all sectors of the UK economy and generate over £12bn in GDP.
