GCU launching free breakfasts for students and staff
Glasgow Caledonian University is offering all students and staff on its Glasgow campus a free breakfast and hot drink every weekday morning, starting from Monday 21 November.
This new initiative is being introduced to help the University’s community, at a time when it will be facing increased costs due to the cost-of-living crisis.
From Monday, all students and staff can enjoy a free hot breakfast, fruit and cup of tea or coffee from its George Moore restaurant, courtesy of the University in partnership with Baxter Storey. We are also working fast on a solution for London and will announce this soon.
The offer will be available from 8am to 11am, Monday to Friday. An extra counter will be in operation to cope with increased demand.
The options that will be on offer include the following: baked beans or scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast; porridge with fruit compote, honey or golden syrup – all with gluten-free options available, on request. Staff and students also have the option of fruit and a hot drink.
Signs will remind staff and students of the options available as part of the free breakfast deal.
To get a free breakfast, all students and staff need to do is collect the breakfast items from the counter and the drinks machine, then head to one of the till points. The cashier will automatically ring it through the till as a zero purchase which will enable the University to monitor uptake and items ‘sold’.
The free breakfast initiative will initially run until the end of February 2023.
GCU’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies said:
“We know that the cost of living crisis has made this a particularly challenging time for our University community. This GCU initiative will provide our students and staff with the opportunity to start their day with a free, healthy, and warming breakfast.”
