The London Insurance Market Charitable Trust has donated £60,000 to fund life-changing scholarships for students on Glasgow Caledonian’s industry-recognised Risk Management programmes.

The generous donation, secured by GCU Foundation, will provide scholarship support to those pursuing a career within the Insurance, Reinsurance and Risk Management industries.

Students joining the BA (Hons) Risk Management or BA (Hons) Finance, Investment and Risk programmes from school or college in September 2023 will be the first to benefit from the multi-year agreement.

Formed in 2001, The London Insurance Market Charitable Trust is led by a group of senior professionals from the London insurance market and offers widening access opportunities for the next generation of graduates seeking a career in the industry.

Trustee Mike Hammond said: “The Trustees have all had experience, during their own careers, in seeing graduates from Glasgow Caledonian enter the industry successfully and want to give further support to young people from GCU, seeking a career in insurance, reinsurance and risk management.

“We hope the funds will widen access to students from all backgrounds.”

Professor John Lennon, Dean of Glasgow School for Business and Society responded: “On behalf of Glasgow Caledonian University, I warmly thank the London Insurance Market Charitable Trust for this generous donation. It will offer tangible, financial assistance to our Risk students during their period of study. The ultimate value of such assistance will be transformational for student recipients.”

Glasgow Caledonian is a leading provider of risk management education and is home to the only dedicated undergraduate programme in the UK. The BA (Hons) Risk Management is double accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), the world's largest professional body for insurance, risk and financial services, and the Institute of Risk Management (IRM).

The BA (Hons) Finance, Investment and Risk degree is also accredited by the CII. Glasgow Caledonian graduates are currently employed in insurance and risk management roles internationally for major firms including Marsh, AXA, Barclays, Turner and Townsend, Stantec and Morgan Stanley.
