Glasgow Caledonian research film nominated for UK award

A powerful short film produced for a Glasgow Caledonian research study has been nominated for a UK award.

Gemma's Story features testimonies from survivors of domestic abuse and stalking and is informed by research carried out by Professor Nancy Lombard and Dr Katy Proctor.

The animated short, produced in association with the creative agency media co-op, has been shortlisted for a Third Sector Excellence Award.

It's in the running for Best Charity Film - Small at this year's awards, which will be held on September 22 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel.

The project, funded by the Scottish Government's Justice Analytical Services, looked at women's experiences of the Scottish criminal justice system after reporting stalking and coercive control.

The Third Sector Excellence Award programme states: "Gemma's Story gives a voice to victims of coercive control and stalking.

"Leading researchers Professor Nancy Lombard and Dr Katy Proctor didn't want the data... to gather dust on academics' bookshelves.

"The script for the animation Gemma's Story has been produced using direct quotes from the research participants. It is harrowing, thought-provoking and designed to make a difference."
