Glasgow Caledonian University shortlisted for three Herald Higher Education Awards

Glasgow Caledonian has been shortlisted for three Herald Higher Education Awards

Glasgow Caledonian University has been shortlisted in three categories in The Herald Higher Education Awards 2023.

The prestigious Awards, which are now in their eighth year, celebrate the extraordinary work being carried out in universities and colleges across Scotland.

Run by The Herald newspaper, the Awards highlight innovation in teaching and explore how higher education institutions market themselves, support students, and engage with employers, as well as recognise outstanding students.

Glasgow Caledonian is shortlisted in the following categories:

Enhancing Student Learning Award - sponsored by QAA: MINT (Mentoring, Internships, Networking & Talks) programme. The GCU Foundation and Alumni Team launched the MINT programme in 2020 to help final-year students and new graduates get a foot on the career ladder in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Three years on, the scheme continues to support our students and alumni via a mentoring programme, a variety of paid internship positions, and a series of Captains of Industry Talks.

Research Project of the Year - sponsored by the Scottish Funding Council: Blood Borne Virus Prevention team. The Blood Borne Virus Prevention team is at the forefront of international work to reduce the impact of HIV and other blood borne viruses. Its ground-breaking research into patterns of infection and how to prevent them is key to achieving the Scottish Government's ambitious target end transmission of HIV in Scotland by 2030.

Partnership Award: Scottish Cold Case Unit - The Cold Case Unit was set up in 2021 to help investigate unsolved missing-person cases. In partnership with the charity Locate International, our criminology students review case files, search for new evidence and work alongside the families of missing loved ones and specialists in investigation, forensic science and intelligence analysis, as part of the unique project. The unit is co-directed by Dr Maureen Taylor and Professor Lesley McMillan.

The Herald Higher Education Awards 2023 will be held on June 1 at the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow.
