It's Game Jam time again
Students and staff will once again team up this month to create a game in 48 hours as part of the Global Game Jam.
The annual weekend-long event will take place in the Glasgow campus' Student Association building from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 January.
The Global Game Jam is the largest annual game-creation event in the world and sees groups of people from all cultures and communities coming together to make games over a period of 48 hours based on a theme revealed just before the start of the event.
Glasgow Caledonian University will be a hosting a venue for the 15th time. The organiser of the event on behalf of Glasgow Caledonian, Hamid Homatash, a senior lecturer from the Applied Computer Games Department, said: "The Global Game Jam is one of the highlights of the year. There is such a buzz and energy that it is infectious and spreads to all the participates whether they are Glasgow Caledonian students, students from other institutions, people with an interest in making games, or games industry professionals.
“Something about the event just captures everyone’s imagination and inspires everyone to learn something new while making a game together according to a theme that isn’t revealed until the start of the event. This lets everyone unleash their creativity and collaborative side.
“Seeing this creative community helping each other, learning from each other, and having fun while they do it, is why I always love being involved with the event and I’m really excited for this year’s Global Game Jam.”
Everyone is welcome to attend the event, whether a game development expert or not, and whether a student or not.
Hamid added: "There is always a mix of skillsets from complete beginners to industry professionals at the event. Everyone always learns something new from everyone else and has a lot of fun doing so."
Along with the main game-creation activity, there will be the chance to take part in quizzes, tournaments and competitions, and play games throughout.
