Laura Boyd returns to University to inspire graduates
Glasgow Caledonian University alumna and STV reporter Laura Boyd inspired at a special ceremony hosted for graduates who missed out on their big day in 2020 and 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Laura is an award-winning reporter, presenter and journalist for STV, one of the largest broadcasters in Scotland. Currently the Entertainment Reporter for STV News and What’s On Scotland, Laura has had an exceptional 20-year career behind and in front of the camera since graduating from GCU with a BA Communications and Mass Media in 2003. She has interviewed many of the world’s most notable celebrities, including Sir David Attenborough, Sir Rod Stewart, George Clooney and Dolly Parton.
She returned to the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to share her inspirational story with graduates.
She said: “This University holds a special place in my heart. For many of you, this day has been long awaited because of COVID-19, but it is a huge moment that is very much worth marking.
“All of your efforts have led you to this. It is now done and dusted. University? You completed it. It is now time to go forth and find your spark. I believe there is a moment in all of us when we get that spark. That moment where you realise, ‘this is in me, this is what I should be doing’. It only takes one spark to light a fire in you and that is a fire that is very hard to put out.
“I gained so much experience and knowledge from GCU that I still use to this day. I learned how to work to deadlines and under pressure, skills that really help me when I am speaking live on TV!
“Take what you have learned and go find your spark.”
