Making a game of the recruitment process

University researchers have won more funding in their bid to help a recruitment company 'gamify' how it sources applicants as a way of replacing the conventional CV submission.

Dr Yan Zhang, Dr Sajid Nazir and Professor Hua Tianfield have been working in collaboration with Bobbll.com since last October to research how game requirements might be used.

Dr Zhang said: “Generation Z job candidates often play online games, and gamification of the recruitment process is a promising strategy. Bobbll is focusing on gamifying its recruitment product offering. The users will be able to access the games through social-media platforms or the Bobbll web application. The game will provide a fun way for candidates to interact and have their job skills assessed.

“The product will also provide feedback and job suggestions to candidates. The product is envisaged to reduce the travel requirements for the applicants, and reduce any recruitment bias, making the process less stressful and fun.”

The project is being funded by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and Bobbll. The second phase of the project has a duration of three months.
