Making our cities sustainable in a just way
The need for a joined-up approach to making our cities and towns more sustainable will be outlined in a specialist address by Professor Craig Thomson.
The Professorial Lecture, entitled Delivering Sustainable Cities in a Just Way, will look at the challenges facing our urban environments as they develop in a more sustainable way. Professor Thomson will explore how all stakeholders could work together to deliver this in a fashion that is both profitable and fair and just.
He will draw on two decades of sustainability-related research that has seen the publication of 85 papers, looking at the juncture between urban management and construction management.
Professor Thomson said: “The lecture seeks to spark conversations between stakeholders involved in the planning, design and delivery of the urban and built environment with a view to establishing a shared vision for delivering urban sustainability. I will look to provide a bridge between stakeholders working in urban and built environment disciplines, reflecting those who plan and design our urban development and those involved in its delivery and operation.
“Leadership, innovation and collaboration have been core themes at the heart of my research and the lecture seeks to explore their importance in the context of helping our cities achieve the transformative approach required.”
The lecture will take place at our Glasgow campus on May 9, 5.30pm-6.40pm. You can register here.
