Matthew’s cyber skills recognised
A Glasgow Caledonian University Graduate Apprentice has been shortlisted for the Scottish Cyber Awards 2022 Outstanding Young Person in Cyber.
Matthew Buchanan, who works for Scottish Power Energy Networks and is in his third year at GCU, will find out if he has been successful at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh on November 24.
The awards, organised by the Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC), are now in their sixth year, and recognise and celebrate stand-out individuals and organisations making a positive impact in Scotland’s cybersecurity sector.
GCU is Scotland’s leading provider of Graduate Apprenticeships, which allows employees to work while they study. GCU works collaboratively with more than 300 employers to transform career prospects and contribute to organisational growth.
Matthew, who is studying MSc Graduate Apprenticeship Cyber Security, said: “The GA course has been really good for being able to practically apply the concepts learned at university in the real world. Where I work is focused on operational technology that has to stay online 24/7/365, so it’s been really valuable getting that real-world experience alongside the university programme.”
Jude McCorry, CEO of the Scottish Business Resilience Centre, said: “Marking the 6th anniversary of the Scottish Cyber Awards, we have arguably the best and most diverse range of nominations yet.
“The judges were blown away by the excellence of cyber talent across Scotland and had a tough time picking the shortlist. As ever, thank you for all your ongoing support and looking forward to seeing you all there to celebrate everything cyber in Scotland!”
