A Ukraine humanitarian fundraising night hosted by a Glasgow Caledonian University psychology lecturer is being held in the Students' Association Re:Union Bar on Friday, 28 October.

International Lead for the Department of Psychology Dr Monika McNeill is inviting staff, students and members of the public along to the free-entry 'They Still Need Our Hand' concert from 7-11pm to help raise funds for Ukrainian war victims.

There will be live music by The Fabulous Cruel Shoes, D-Dad and Victor Kennedy who have played with famous bands The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Pink Floyd and recorded in Abbey Road Studios in London.

Dr McNeill has already raised over £25,000 since March to buy electricity generators and vital medical supplies for hospitals and frontline shelters treating the injured men, women and children.

She said: "There is naturally less attention to what's happening in Ukraine but they still need our help. This week the Russian army has been intensively bombarding power stations and heat plants, therefore whole regions have power shortages. That's why it is an urgent appeal.

"The money we raise from this event will help pay for electricity generators and medical equipment for a hospital in Drohobych, Ukraine, specialising in treating war victims.

"Please come along and join us. It will be a great night and the bands are fantastic. The musicians have all given their time for free and are travelling to Glasgow out of their own pockets. They are incredibly generous.

"The psychology department staff and students have helped me organise this event and I cannot thank them enough for their support. The Students' Association has also been a great support in providing a perfect venue."
