Professor Sara Cantillon appointed Gender Expert for Ireland
Professor Sara Cantillon has been appointed Gender Expert for Ireland.
The Director of Glasgow Caledonian's Wise Centre for Economic Justice will provide expert support to the Irish Government to strengthen their gender and equality proofing under the European Commission DG Reform project on Gender Mainstreaming in Public Policy.
Professor Cantillon will help Government departments identify the gender impacts of proposals with a view to developing public policy that is more aware of the barriers that can lead to inequality in employment opportunities and progression.
The two-and-a-half year project, funded by the European Commission’s Technical Support Instrument, will also draw on the expertise of Glasgow Caledonian's Professor Angela O’Hagan, Dr Nina Teasdale and PhD student Dominic Lo.
Professor Cantillon, a former Economic and Social Policy Advisor to the Department of the Taoiseach, will work in conjunction with Ireland's Equality Unit in the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.
The project is being implemented by Expertise France, the European Institute for Gender Equality and the European University Institute.
