R&A World Golf Museum showcases PhD student's work
Audio testimonies gathered by a Glasgow Caledonian PhD student about women's experiences playing club golf will feature in a new exhibition at the R&A World Golf Museum.
Lauren Beatty collected 25 oral histories from female players about the game's development in Scotland since 1945, as part of a unique PhD project that saw her based at the home of golf in St Andrews.
Excerpts of the interviews have been included in Pass it on: Women’s Experiences in Golf, a new exhibition that showcases and celebrates women’s golfing memorabilia.
Lauren, who has completed her PhD entitled Evolution not Revolution: An Oral History of Women's Club Golf in Scotland c.1945-1995 and graduates next week, said: "I am delighted that some of the important stories I uncovered during my PhD are being used in this exhibition.
"One of the core objectives of my PhD was to share these stories with the public.
"I am grateful to the Curatorial team at the R&A World Golf Museum for including these oral histories in the exhibition and for making me feel a welcome member of their team for four years."
The exhibition, which features previously unseen collections across 150 years of golf, runs until the end of the year.
