Data will be studied at one of Glasgow’s biggest train depots in a bid to increase service reliability and performance.

Researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University will study data relating to the Cl380 Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) fleet at the Shields Road Depot, paying close attention to historic critical-systems failures that have contributed to unplanned maintenance, service cancellations or delays.

The team, led by Professor Babakalli Alkali, will use the data gleaned - analysed and digitally displayed on a dashboard system - to help fleet manufacturer Siemens make decisions that could improve future performance. The Cl380 EMU trains fleet have been in operation since 2012 in Scotland.

Professor Alkali said: “The outcome of this research is expected to have a direct impact on customers by improving punctuality, reliability, and contributing to their overall satisfaction.”
