Professor Alison Britton has been praised by the Scottish Government for her "meticulous work" reviewing the case records of women who endured mesh implant surgery.

In a Parliamentary debate, Women's Health Minister Jenni Minto said the review had given the women involved time and space to share their experiences.

Professor Britton, with the assistance of an expert panel, spent two years reviewing the cases of 18 women who received transvaginal mesh implants, for an independent report.

It found some women were not given accurate information before undergoing the life-altering procedure, case notes were misleading, and the potential consequences of the surgery were not fully explained.

Jenni Minto told MSPs: "I would like to thank Professor Britton for her meticulous work and echo her thanks to the women who shared their experiences and insight.

"It will be up to the individual women involved to judge the benefit of the process to them but the panel noted there was a general appreciation of not being rushed and being able to define their own journey in their own way.

"From the Government's perspective, we are grateful to Professor Britton, the panel and their staff for fulfilling their remit so thoroughly and in a way that has respected women's experiences."

Following the Holyrood debate, all parties unanimously called for the full acceptance and implementation of all 21 recommendations in the report.
