Scottish Government's Chief AHP Officer visits School of Health and Life Sciences

Professor Carolyn McDonald, Chief Allied Health Professions (AHP) Officer for the Scottish Government, visits Glasgow Caledonian

Professor Carolyn McDonald, Chief Allied Health Professions (AHP) Officer for the Scottish Government, was very impressed with our staff, students and facilities during a recent visit to Glasgow Caledonian University's School of Health and Life Sciences.

She was treated to a hands-on demonstration by MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) students Cara Lockhart and Niamh Doctor, both 22, and Head of Department of Physiotherapy and Paramedicine Dr Chee-Wee Tan.

Professor Anita Simmers, Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences and newly appointed joint Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor Research, gave Professor McDonald a tour of the AHP facilities in the Govan Mbeki health building and introduced her to AHP heads of department and students.

Professor Carolyn McDonald, Chief Allied Health Professions Officer for the Scottish Government, said: "The facilities at Glasgow Caledonian University are fantastic and provide a fabulous learning environment for Scotland's future Allied Health Professions' workforce.

"From the pre-registration physiotherapy students developing their practical skills in-house, to the orthoptics students handling state of the art equipment, it is wonderful to see that these students are being taught in such authentic clinical environments."

Professor Simmers said: "It was a pleasure to welcome Carolyn Macdonald to the School of Health and Life Sciences and to share with her the School's ambitions, the current and future needs of our students and the future health needs of the people of Scotland.

"We look forward to working collaboratively with the Scottish Government across the AHP education, research and workforce sectors."
